The City Council of Valencia, through the Fundaci\u00f3 Val\u00e8ncia Clima i Energia wants to expand the constitution of local energy communities. Within the framework of the program \u201cNeighborhoods connect to the sun\u201d, which already operates in seven points, next week an informative meeting will be held to promote local energy communities in the neighborhoods of Cabanyal-Canyamelar and Malva-rosa.<\/p>\n

Tal como ha explicado el concejal de Mejora Clim\u00e1tica y Eficiencia Energ\u00e9tica, Carlos Mundina, \u201cel objetivo de una comunidad energ\u00e9tica es ofrecer beneficios energ\u00e9ticos a sus miembros, pero tambi\u00e9n genera beneficios medioambientales, econ\u00f3micos y sociales para el barrio en el que funciona y para toda la ciudad\u201d. \u201cPor eso \u2013ha a\u00f1adido- desde el Ayuntamiento, a trav\u00e9s de la Fundaci\u00f3n\u00a0Val\u00e8ncia Clima i Energ\u00eda<\/em>, y con fondos europeos, queremos impulsar este modelo de generaci\u00f3n y consumo de energ\u00eda sostenible que ya funciona con \u00e9xito en muchos lugares de Europa\u201d.<\/p>\n

At present, there are already seven energy communities in Valencia, which are in different stages of development. They are the communities of Algir\u00f3s, Malilla, Russafa, Ciutat Vella, Malva-rosa, Sa\u00efdia and Castellar-l’Oliveral. In addition, those of Benimaclet and l’Olivereta are in the pipeline. All of them have funding from the European Union, in the framework of the OTCs program (European Community Transformation Offices Project) \u201cwith the aim of replicating in all neighborhoods of Valencia the successful formula of the CEL of Castellar-l’Oliveral that has been operating since 2022,\u201d recalled Mundina.<\/p>\n

In this context, next September 26, Fundaci\u00f3 Val\u00e8ncia i Energia staff will meet with neighbors and merchants of Cabanyal, Canyamelar and Malva-rosa in order to create energy communities in the Mar\u00edtim District. This meeting with neighbors of Mar\u00edtim will be replicated with different neighborhood associations in other parts of the city, which will be coordinated from Val\u00e8ncia Clima i Energia.<\/p>\n

\u201cNeighborhoods connect to the sun\u201d is an initiative of the Fundaci\u00f3 Val\u00e8ncia Clima i Energia to encourage residents of Valencia to form an association or cooperative to finance the installation of a photovoltaic plant in their neighborhood and collectively manage the energy resources it generates, and in which both individuals and SMEs or public or private institutions located in the neighborhood can participate.<\/p>\n

The Castellar-l’Oliveral community was the first to be set up in the city. It was in 2022, and according to its own data it has already generated more than 137,000 kWh, and has saved the emission of more than 60,000 kilos of CO2 into the atmosphere, the equivalent of planting more than 3,000 trees.<\/p>\n

The Community Transformation Office (OTC), under the Val\u00e8ncia Clima i Energia Foundation, offers free training services, advice and technical support to create a community or participate in a Local Energy Community already created. The OTCs help to put in contact people from the same neighborhood interested in developing a project, study the best legal formula to be constituted, accompany them in the registration process and help them to look for roofing options in the neighborhood, where it is viable to carry out the solar photovoltaic installation.<\/p>\n

Councilman Carlos Mundina explained that \u201ceach energy community can carry out, in addition to the installation of a solar photovoltaic plant to produce electricity for the consumption of members, many other activities related to energy efficiency, training activities on energy, electric mobility…\u201d. \u201cWe want a greener Valencia and the energy transition is one of the great municipal bets to achieve it,\u201d concluded the mayor.<\/p>\n

This instrument makes it possible to monetize energy savings<\/strong>, recovering part of the cost of investments in energy efficiency (change of lighting, improvement of thermal insulation, renovation of industrial or domestic equipment, etc.), since the end user will be able to receive a consideration<\/strong> if he sells the savings obtained for subsequent certification through the CAE System.<\/p>\n

Val\u00e8ncia Clima i Energia, the municipal foundation that works to promote the city’s energy transition, has published the \u201cVERD Guide: Val\u00e8ncia Efficient Housing and Decarbonised Rehabilitation\u201d. This publication, consisting of two complementary volumes, addresses the challenge of energy rehabilitation of buildings from a technical and citizen approach.<\/p>\n

\u2018The aim of this guide is to facilitate the transition to a more efficient, sustainable and healthy building, and responds to the commitment of the city of Valencia to climate neutrality by 2030\u2019, as explained by the councillor for Climate Improvement and Energy Efficiency, Carlos Mundina.<\/p>\n

This free publication is aimed at professionals in the construction sector and public administrations, as well as citizens, homeowners’ associations and people interested in improving the energy efficiency of their homes.<\/p>\n

“Energy efficient renovation of Val\u00e8ncia’s buildings not only contributes to reducing emissions, but also improves thermal comfort, people’s health, the value of the homes and generates local employment. This guide is a practical tool to move towards a fairer, more resilient and sustainable city,” said the councillor.<\/p>\n

Volume I of the guide offers a specialised technical overview on sustainable building solutions, bio-based materials (originating from renewable raw materials of biological origin), decarbonisation strategies and environmental criteria for public procurement. It is designed for technical staff, architecture and engineering professionals, and public managers involved in refurbishment and tendering processes.<\/p>\n

Volume II, on the other hand, is aimed at the general public and includes a detailed overview of the entire energy refurbishment process: from the identification of needs in the building to the execution of the works and the enjoyment of the benefits. It provides real-life examples, practical advice, information on available subsidies, regulatory requirements and keys to facilitate decision-making in neighbourhood communities.<\/p>\n

Both volumes are available in digital format on the Fundaci\u00f3 Val\u00e8ncia Clima i Energia website and at the Energy Offices, municipal service points offering free, personalised advice on energy efficiency, rehabilitation aid and improving comfort in the home.<\/p>\n

The guide has been written by the Cesefor Foundation, with the collaboration of Dark Matter Labs, Democratic Society and CitiES2030, in the framework of the European project EU CINCO 2.0. The initiative is supported by the European project URBANEW, which promotes urban decarbonisation in several Spanish cities, including Valencia.<\/p>\n
